Correct but there are allot of engines that use a Hemi head as Chrysler sold the Patent many years ago! Almost all NHRA guys run a Hemi headed engine!
Ford even use the Hemi head on the so called Cammer engine (427)!
Actually the first ever production Hemi engine was built for use in the P-47 aircraft and Sherman tanks for WWII though never made it into the plane/tanks as the war had ended!
Here is some good reading about the Hemi engine!

Wow...I learned a lot there.
But nah the outlaw isn't gonna die. It's too big of a name with too much marketing efforts involved to just let the line die. With the drastic changes they made in 09' they just showed us how willing they are to shake things up a bit, so them switching back to a 500 or simply recreating there own new "525 (510)" cc shouldn't be a problem. I'm guessing a 500 EFI is the next move...we'll see though

Now the 550 motor the only way I see it appealing to the sport quad market if it came with a 5-speed transmission.

Depends on many things......From an economic standpoint.
If the economy does not pick up by 2010, there is a good chance the Outlaw will die in some form. If they don't have the money, they won't be able to create their own engines. Right now there is no one spending money and that is delaying every project on the docket. There is no way Polaris will be able to launch a 450cc engine in time for 2010 so they will get as many as KTM will sell them (which I understand is a limited number now) and keep the 450s going as long as they can. The sales have not exactly been staggering for any of the Outlaws but the 525 does sell more.
To build a 450cc machine from scratch, an entire new engine will cost a ton of money. As someone said, the 550 or even one of the twins could find its way into an IRS Outlaw without spending much money. They may decide to dump the IRS or the SRA, and not offer that option.
Right now the economy is in trouble but it will recover. It just depends on how much it recovers by the time Polaris has to make the choice.
