2005 500 EFI Front Left CV Boot
#1
Hey All ... I am somewhat new to this forum, but found it to be very informative.
Just did an oil change today, and noticed a bunch of grease around my front left CV boot. The boot looks in good condition, no tears, or punctures. What do you think the problem??

I've never worked on CV boots before, if they are loose, is there a way to tighten them again, without having to replace?
Or, is it normal practice to inspect, clean, regrease and replace?
Thank You!

it really looks like it torn about inthe middle of the boot. about 2 valley's behind the big end of the boot.
on your bands there is no way to tighten them. they are a one time one use only type of thing.
could be a slight tear that only opens when at a certian angle.

Just took another quick look at it in the garage. What we see in that valley is just grease. I will take a better look and clean it really good tomorrow. Might be a small tear.
Thanks for the help eggenz7!

iv reused the bands many times without an issue. now i have a few extra bands.
iv only had issues with my old 00' sportsman. the rear cv boots least once or twice a yr i had to fix. many said it was from not driving it, and or the sharp angle of the axle. never had a problem with the front tell the last 3 weeks i owned it. then the front cv boot whent out. but prior to it going out it had grease around the boot. like yours. i cleaned it off. but never found a tear. but then a few weeks later it tore. im guessing there is a tear in the boot somewhere. and you cant see it. iv only had one issue with the clamp being loose. and that wasent from an oem clamp. i used a diffent cv boot and clamp. the boot seemed to hold better. but i didnt have it long enought to see how well it would have held up.
good luck tho.

Make sure you buy the Polaris brand boot...much easier than the junkie after market boots. Not a hard job, yours is definate torn.
