polaris 500 2001 wont rev
anything other information? has it been sitting? anything happen? sounds like it is running lean. i could see if it has been sitting for awhile, the carb has gummed up. or if something happened like a roll over or something messing up the float. intake leak, etc.

did it start acting up since the carb cleaning or before? i guess i am trying to see if it just started acting up overnight (which would tend to meen electrical) or has it started acting up over time and just got worse and worse ( which tends to meen fuel issues)?

I am having the same problem with mine.
I have a 99 Polaris Sportsman 500. It was a friend of mine's dads machine and he will sell it to me cheap if I can get it fixed. It ran fine up until two years ago when it just died. It only has 2700KM on it. It wouldnt start without backfiring and stalling out.
I have had it in the shop and they have done the following work:
Rebuilt the darb
Adjusted the valves
replaced the stator
checked timing
The machine will start, idle but when you give it any gas it pops and backfires and stalls out.
They think it might have something to do with the camshaft being slipping in the web.
They are telling me that to get to the camshaft they need to pull apart the engine (about 20 shop hours worth of work) ... not sure if it is worth it if this is the case.
Any thoughts?
