I went through identical symptoms last season, very frustrating, but I would bet my left nut that it is your exhaust lobe on your cam. Mine came on very suddenly, and after reading through this forum it was a chronic problem in the 01 HO's. When mine was removed, I was shocked to see the middle lobe (exhaust) almost worn smooth. Apparently they have rectified the problem with the replacement parts. Mine also requred a new rocker arm. But it's all good now, and it's nice to have that power restored, feels like new again!

I just got done going through the same thing with my 04 700. I know you said you cleaned the carb, but did you pull the diaphram out and clean the slide? The top of the carb was wet and the slide was filthy. Once I cleaned that and replaced the plugs, I was good to go. Replace the fuel filter that filters air directly to carb. It's located between the two snorkels between the tank and seat.
