Default New to the list and mod questions answered

Hello all! I'm new to the list and glad I found it. Recently picked up a new 09 Sportsman 800 to replace my crazy modded 05. Was on the fence about going with the 850XP but heard they had issues with the plow mounts tweaking. Since I do a lot of plowing I decided to go with another reliable 800. The XP's rock but I'm not sold on how well they will be for utility work.

As for mods, I have seen a lot of posts on the three headlight and reverse mods.I just did mine so I hope this helps.

Reverse mod- pull the headlight pod off and disconnect the two harnesses going to it. On the big harness locate the gray/orange wire and use a splice connector with another 8" piece of wire and have a female spade end connected to it. Now do the same with the brown(ground) wire coming off the lighter/accessory plug. Hook the two female spades to a toggle switch that you can mount on the pod and you are done. You will have to turn the switch to the "off" position to use the yellow override button to scroll through the different modes or if a young or inexperienced rider is on it for safety.

Three headlight mod- you will need a common relay from an auto parts store(I used a five pin because they are most common and came with a wiring harness), four 8" pieces of wire, and splice connectors. With the headlight pod off and the two harnesses unplugged you will need to splice the followoing wires:
#30 on relay to the green wire coming from the harness on the left handlebar
#87 to the positve wire on the lighter plug
#86 to the yellow wire coming off the top headlight harness
#85 to the lighter ground(brown wire)
Once it is all connected you should have all three lights on when switched to HI.

I've done this on all my EFI Sportsman's with no issues so it is a great "do it yourself" mod. Hope this helps!

You should have researched a little more on the XP plow mounts. The G-2 mounts on the 2008 and older are the ones that are bending.
The G-2 mounts for the XP's (2009) are working fine!

That was the info I got from my Polaris dealer. He was talking to a Polaris rep to see if they made a Glacier1 mount for the XP(still had mine from my 05 and didn't want to chunk out $700 for another one). I see from the posts that they have an updated mount so that is good.

Pretty busy with Military training this weekend but I will try to take a pic and post it this week. It's a pretty easy mod once you take the pod off and the wiring is really easy to get to. Had a snow storm here yesterday so I got to try it out. Sure is nice not having to use that stupid button! How do you like the Big Gun systemon your wheeler? I'm only planning a few mods on my new wheeler like exhaust, K&N filter, nerf bars, front/rear rack extenders/bumpers, and clutch kit. Not going crazy with a big lift this time around. Might look in to tracks also.

I really like the Big Gun, it does give some power gains, and has a great sound I got mine off ebay
I would look into atv guru bumpers, this guy does top notch work, others will chime in about him too
