Default 1996 300 Explorer Starter location?

I am sure I am going to get laughed at for this question. Where is the darn starter located on this ATV? I can't see it anywhere is it toward the front or back of the engine?

I tried to trace the wires to the starter but I still can't see where it is. Is the starter behind something that I need to take off to get at it? I have been looking at the manuals online but they really don't show where it is either.
Any help in finding the starter would be great.

yea if its on the bottom,, in order to get it out... you gotta take the mid chain off and take the recoil housing off... there are 2 bolts in there that gotta come off.. then i usually tip the machine on its side makes it alot easyer... then i take a 10mm wrench and take out 2 bolts on the bracket and ofcourse take the batt out and d/c the cable on the starter and it will come out... thats how i did it on my 400L 2 stroke... not sure if its the same

Thanks everyone I know what I will be doing the rest of the weekend.

Has anyone on here bought parts from DBelectric out of TN.? I got a quote on a starter from them that is way cheaper than anywhere else. It was like $46.00 for a new starter not a rebuilt one plus $12 shipping. Every where else I have been looking has been way higher than that. I wont even mention what our local Polaris dealer wanted.

I am just trying to figure out how someone can sell them so cheap and everyone else wants a arm and leg plus a few other body parts for a starter.

i would take it off and apart to see if it just needs a cleaning or maybe an easy rebuild before you buy one. imo
