Help me with Mud Riding (get stuck to much)
#11
Only way not to get stuck is to stay out of the mud. Bigger more agressive tires will help, next step is a lift kit. I have found that once I make it through one hole I just get more ambitious. but sure is fun.

With the 500 my brother and a co-worker have had some problems getting stuck. You'll want to watch out for sitting in water for too long a period of time, if your drive belt gets wet you won't be spinging your tires at all. It happened to my brother and I had to push while my Dad pulled and then he had to sit around until she dried enough to drive. < it was a great learning experance, and something two Honda riders never let him forget about.

Each mud hole is different and WOT isn't always the best way to get through. The main thing in the deep mud is to keep moving if you can and try not to spin the wheels much. Stopping in the middle on purpose will get you stuck sometimes but it's fun to peel out and play around like that in smaller mud holes.

try rockin it side to side and just keep movin the front tire in a turnin motion (usually works for me). and if you have gears like a honda does and try hittin it in second gear that also works for me. with a polaris put it in high and give er hell

That's the winning answer, Koerbs. Before I had an ATV I went 4-wheeling with an SUV, a fullsize van, and pickup trucks. Believe it or not the van went most places the 4-wheel drives did. I had a 360 4-barrel in the van and I had to hit everything at a higher than normal speed because it didn't have much traction. As long as it had enough momentum everything worked out.

i agree 100%. iv played in the snow and mud. speed is the ticket. but then if the mud or snow is so soft it dont make a differance. your gona get stuck. i played n the road ditch snow a few weeks back. drove over the snow pile a few times (4ft deep) with speed. then i decided to go at and angel and not as much speed. bad idea. ended up spending a half hr taking the snow out from under it to get out. rocking back and forth didnt help me just because it made a table under the wheeler. so i ended up cleaning under it anyways. mud was the same way for my last wheeler back in 2002. didnt have the speed got stuck in the middle. id rather dig out of snow then mud. especily peet. try mudding in that. if you get stuck you need a winch or a buddy with one.

I have recently found out that With the Polaris Sportsman , As I am entering the Mud I need to stay out of the ruts and Move to left or right of the last Guys ruts, Then I have been leaning to the left or right and moving the front wheels to and fro and it works fine, Havent been stuck Since I started doing something different, i have found now that Momentum and Not full throttle is the key for me, Thanks to all who added input and Suggestions, im a better Mudder now. Glad to hear your conquering mudholes and taking their names. My old axiom about 4wd is that it just lets you get stuck a whole lot further in than you can without it. I've driven Dodge Darts, Plymouth Dusters, Datsun 710 station wagon, Nissan 4 cyl. 4x4, Toyota 4 cyl. 4x4, Isuzu Trooper, Ford F350 (glad I didn't get that stuck), GMC 2500HD (see glad comment) and various quads. The only one I haven't stuck yet out in the woods is the X2. Come verrrryyy close though.
