Help me with Mud Riding (get stuck to much)
#22
No, but I had a funny one happen with the Dart. I went out on a day in March where it was just warm enough to thaw the frost heaves on the dirt road I used to ride around on. Well, I went up to the floorboards in soupy mud. The ground that had grass on it was fine and I noticed some old plywood in a pile about 20 yards away. I carefully jacked up each tire and got the plywood underneath. My plan was to turn off the soupy road and drive on the grass to get out of there. I put it in drive and the tires just kept spinning and spinning on the plywood as the tires were filled with mud. I couldn't go forward or back. So, being the bright individual I am I decided to leave it in drive and give it a shove with the drivers door open. Still, couldn't put enough oomph into it to get it moving. Went around the back and shoved as hard as I could. The car took off without me and started across the field with me in hot pursuit with the driver door open. It was headed for a patch of small trees. I jumped in just as it began crumpling the little trees. Fortunately, it didn't get stuck in the trees. I wished that I had a video camera for that one. I had a good laugh at myself.

Another thing that is funny is that the Dodge Darts, Plymouth Duster, and Datsun 710 had more useable ground clearance than a lot of so called SUVs and 4x4 trucks that are out there now. They didn't do too bad with a good set of snow tires on them. My favorite is people who buy an already low SUV like the Chevy Trailblazer and then put running boards on it... What are they thinking?

LOL! It's always good to laugh at yourself. I appreciate it when nobody else witnesses some of the stupid things I do!

I had a 69 Tbird with a 429 in it. I loved that thing. It was a boat. My mini cooper could fit in the trunk! In the winter, I would drive it through the mountain passes in white out conditions with no problems, just good all season tires. It was so heavy, just had to stay out of the "stupid" pedal! LOL!
