Default 2008 500ho carb fuel gauge is crap. any one else agree? what have you done?

ok. iv got 203miles and 46.3hrs on my wheeler. the fuel gauge worked last week. but i found it strange the gauge hasnt moved. i looked in the tank and its under half. im guessing that the gas level senser has gone bad. factory 6mo warranty exspired march 3rd 09. think they warranty it anyways? $6000 dollar atv and a SENDER-FUEL,LEVEL
7204085-001 $83.46 has gone bad!!!! im not happy about this. i like my old 335 sportsman. least electonic things didnt go wrong it EVER!!!!

i know i can fix it my self. but think the dealer or polaris would fix it if i Bit***d about it??

i know it should have least left full by now. i can already look into the tank and see the hump(bottom of the tank) probley under half full. iv emailed the dealer where i got it and polaris about it. i want them to know the day i found out. my old 335 had less electronic issues than this one. iv had the battery freez, the solinoid go out, and now another electronic thing goes out. and by chance the fuel level sensor has gone out 1month after the factory warranty exspired!!! what a pile of junk. this thing better not become a money pit for me. or else im going to buy a honda! theyed better fix it. iv only had it 7monthes. think enough bit***ing will get them to fix it for free? $6000 hunk of electronic crap! think thats the worst thing i hate about new things (cars/trucks/atv/etc) they have to add more crap thats electronic and it costes more than what its worth. make life easy my butt. more like a pain in the butt.... lets add more wires and crap that will make things better. and we will evon make the electronics cheaper. then have them take it up the tailpipe to fix it!!!! frikin piece of friking pile of lemon junk. think this is gona be a money pit for me. one more electronic thing goes wrong with this im gona try honda.

I never seen a gas gage I would trust on a ATV or motorcycle. I use the trip meter, after a fill up I know I have 90 miles safely.

Default Fuel Guage

If there is one thing I have learned with ATV's/bikes it is never trust the fuel guage. I agree with the last posting on trusting your tripmeter. I also have a 3+ gallon fuel pack that I keep strapped to the front rack and a gallon can that I keep in the rear cargobox.

Chuck,

Mine is the same way. It seems to be going forever on a tankful, and then all of a sudden it will drop rapidly.

Be advised... when you get that last block on the gauge before empty... you better be close to home.

I like to keep mine topped off with gas with a good gas additive. The fuel filter on the 500 HO is virtually worthless. So a good additive will help. Plus, keeping the tank full reduces condensation in the tank.

EDIT: If you go on some pretty long treks, the advice to carry a fuel pack is great advice.

My 08 500X2 with EFI's guage quit working with less than 40 hours on it and about 6 months out of warranty and it will cost me over $550 to get it fixed, junk.

$550! is not worth the knowing of the gas level. I would just pull over and put a tree branch down the gas tank hole to check the gas before paying $550!
