Fogged gauge
#1
I have a 2002 Sportsman 500 and my gauge lens contains moisture and seems to be getting worse. Common issue with these things? Any tips on how to fix it? Is there a way to un-install the lens and re-apply RVT sealant or something strong? Would be nice to see my hours and miles again. Thanks.

Also if that moisture zaps out that $300 digital speedo you will have no AWD. You could silicon it from the outside but it would look like hel.
Dry it out with a hair dyer first though.

lol yeah, its pretty bad, all I can easilly see is the center and top anymore. The weather here has been fluctuating too much its never too warm or too cold so moisture is strong.

it looks to me like the metal piece around the lens is press fit to the body of the speedo, maybe dremil tool cut slots and pry back the lip? them reseal on back side after dryed out, mine is dead but being a electronic tech I would like to open up and see whats up in there, must be allot of technolgy in there for the $270 price tag of a new one...

you might be able to unhook the wire harness in back then remove it form the pod and use as mentioned a hairdryer to dry it out and then take some clear silcone on the edges when its suppose to be sealed and let dry snd reinstall into the pod. just an idea.

When Polaris, brought out the digital speedo in 2000 they made it a acting component of the AWD system for some crazy reasoning.
The speedo must be there and work to have AWD.
I think Polaris knows the speedo is located in such a place that it will be the first thing to smash even in a minor rollover ,being that the speedo is located at the highest point of the ATV.
At $300 per replacement Polaris rakes the cash in.
In 99 the speedos were analog cable input types, if they broke or guit it was up to you to fix it or not, because it effect nothing with the AWD system.

just to add somethign extra as well, when you guys wash your bikes w/ a pressure wahser or even a hose try not to put alot of direct contact w/ the speedo as like he just mentioned that moisture will kill these newer style speedos in a heart beat, so be aware.
