Does your X2 have 25" or 26" wheels? A ATV with 25" wheels would have a advantage over a ATV with 26" wheels in a drag race situation.

Not sure if this question was for me but my atv is bone stock. Think it has 25's but not sure.

Sorry about the mix up. My X2 is a 2007. I guess what I was trying to say is that I thought from all the press that the new 550 made tons of power compared to the old 500. I just couldn't figure out being that my X2 weighs more why the 550 didn't walk away from it. I figure it would leave my machine in the dust. I was just really disappointed and so was the friend that bought it. The polaris articles in the mags made it out like it was different from night and day to the older 500 fuel injected.

With that new suspension and all I figure it would be a little rocket. I have to agree mtpockets though that my X2 is a tank also. I'm an older person who just likes to cruise along. My hot rodding days are over.

Well at 735lb the 550 XP is no light weight mid size ATV also, but you never read about bent frames on this forum. LOL

If I'm not mistaken, both the XP's have a higher "low" gear that probably doesn't make them suitable for a short drag race. For me, it would have no bearing on my evaluation of the machine.

The point about the XP not being as good at climbing up and over some type of terrain as the X2 is more interesting. However, the longer wheelbase of the X2 would play a big role in that. Probably adding some weight to the front end of the XP would help.

A ATV with a longer wheel base will always climb better, you see the dirt bike hill climbs, they sure extent those awing arms way out there.

my friend has a 2008 x2 and i have a xp 550 and they both have about 40 miles on them. they are both not broke in. my xp didnt totally smoke the x2 but it was clearly faster. if i remember correctly i think the x2 only has 2 or 3 less horse power than the xp. after we get both our machines broke in we will do a longer drag race and see what happens. as far as the offroad part the xp tires suck the x2's are wider and seem to be a little more aggressive IMO. happy trails

If you want to go fast you buy the 850. The 550 is nice mid size very comfortable quad.

My problem with the XP550 is you can get a comfortable quad with a hel1 of more for power for the same price.

SP800 and even cheaper KQ750 fore ex.

go fast and spend less , I say.
