In my case I did not want the power of a big bore quad for my wife, if I did I would have bought two 850's. Instead I like the XP's features and design and the lower power of the 550, it was perfect for her. Everyone has a criteria that determines what makes the most sense for them. If cc per dollar is what floats your boat that's fine. I happen to enjoy the latest and greatest in design and the XP is a heck of a quad.

I bought a 255hp SeaDoo last summer. I thought I went crazy because all I was looking for was a basic 3-seater to have FUN on. You see, it's been 13 years since I owned a SeaDoo so I thought I was long over-due.

Let me tell you! I am SO glad I bought this BIG hp watercraft. I'm still smiling even after not riding it since last fall! LOL!

I think my next Polaris ATV will have BIG power. I think my senseable side may have changed as a result of my fun on the water last year.

When I feel a little more confident about the USA economy I think I'll give an XP850 a place in my garage.

Maybe by then the 850 will be offered in the X2 body.

Sounds a little like my story ..... I wanted to pick up a couple toys for my wife and I. Did some research and shopping around and decided on some XP's. I am getting older and thought I would get something fairly mild to cruise some trails on. I thought the 550 was good .... drove the 850 and though it would be more than what I wanted. BUT I have many years of racing various things so I decided I best go with HP .... always use to pay lots of money to eek some extra ponies. I can't tell you how happy I am that I went with the 850! Crank that throttle wide open and hold on .... the feeling of the power is awesome and it always brings a smile to my face.

From what I've seen the main attraction of the XP 550 would be the power steering or just the easier steering due to the new suspension. I've seen alot of comments about it steering much easier than previous Sporstmans.

I say after 200 miles is when you feel the 550 loosen up. And like the engine, this suspension needs breaking in as well. Mine rides 100% better than when I first bought it home, The terrathon's are terrible tires for doing anything other than driving on the road, the compound is too hard and the tread is not cut enough to allow a traction tire flex. Like Moose said the steering is amazing, esp when using for plowing.
