Protective gear

LOL..LOL Thats pretty good Stendori! "I get NO respect at all!"..LOL. Hey you all thanks for all the replies. Well seems like you all are pulling it out of me. I took a spill on the Hatfield and McCoy trails. I am okay all in all, a little hurt. She flipped on me going up a steep incline. All the Sportsmans did it okay before me. It was completely an accident. As my front left tire went down in this rut next to flat rock bumped out of the steep incline, I shifted my weight over to compensate in hopes to climb out of it, next thing I know, 800+ lbs are coming back on me, rolling me (Longest 2seconds of my life having that much weight on me) and the wheeler back on the rocky hill/mountain. It was pretty intense and well my wheeler is NOT the same. She got pretty messed up!
Two guys in my riding party helped me down and it took awhile to get her started and off the mountain. Needless to say it ruined the rest of the trip for me. The others went to the next trail system the next day down at Buffalo-Hollow. I had to come back early! Still recovering, and the bike is going in the shop next week for inspection. Lots of plastic damage and a few add-ons too. The alignment with wheels/tires/steering etc. is torked too, bent handlebars, and lots of things I don't feel like typing it all. In short most of the front end and top took the brunt of several rolls down the mountain.
NOW you know the context of my thread. I hope to mend these injuries, repair my bike and before I ride next time invest into some more protective gear (only IF it really HELPS..:-) and won't ever do black trails (most difficult) again NOR steepness pass my comfort level. These things should be ridden to enjoy and help with other projects not anything else (whatever that may be) - IMO.
Cheers,

I ride pretty hard and have always worn helmet, goggles, gloves, boots, long sleeves, and pants or bibs. Been bouced, rolled, flipped, run over, etc. and have come out relatively unscathed so far.

I use one of the new style chest protectors with the built in kidney belt and like it.You can either wear it over a shirt or you can put a jersey on over top of it if you like.I haven't been trail riding since 1996 and only race now, so I don't know how comfortable it would be on a long trail ride.

Couldn't agree with you more. The stupid logos and all the flashy strips and colors. Ridiculous....look like a 15 year old wanna be motorcross kid.

Try a Trek Vest works great for me, I have broken ribs twice and bruised a kidney not fun stuff. Most of us never think it will happen to us well it will and when you least expect it. Last year there were 48 or so deaths involving ATVs in WV alone, it really upsets me when I see riders with no gear what so ever not even a helmet. I refuse to ride with such stupidity. I have been riding for over 15 years now and have seen some pretty nasty wrecks, last fall 5 of us riding in WV Ashland to Logan on trail 100 miles, one of the boys got careless on the way back, well he was just stupid. Old boy cliped a log on a long down hill and was sent over the bars the hard way, bike comes over and bites him in the back. Well he was 200lbs of FUBAR, 3 broken ribs, blown disk, bruised kidneys, ****ed blood for a week. He was Lucky to be alive, he had a helmet, boots and a vest if not for the vest the gun scabbier post mounts would have punctured his spine and he'd be bird food. Old boy never thought it would happen to him and he had the vest.
By the way he had to ride 45 miles in the dead of night to get to help, we helped him all we could but ultimately you screw the pooch in the middle of nowhere and its suck it up time.

Waahehe94,
Wheres the rebel forces? LOL..LOL Dang, I think all I need now is Darth Vader's light saber and mask, LOL..LOL. J/K
Wow, that is some serious protective gear! Thanks for the pics etc. it gives me some ideas! Hey where did you pick that up? I have this Dennis Kirk catalog and its loaded with lots of protective gear and riding apparel. My issue is most of what I see only goes to XL-XXL. Being a bigger guy I need at least 3X to work with. Ideas?

Yea this happened to me on the Little Coal River trail system on "their" BLACK TRAILS. If you can
believe that. For those of you who don't know, what I am told down at Hatfield and McCoy is that these were the tamest of all their trails. Well from a male-pride thing at least I busted one on their Black trail system, LOL. But an accident can happen anywhere even in a backyard, LOL. I don't know, my outlook with these ATV adventures are a little different now, I don't want to compete, keep up with the Jones', or feel like I need to climb Mt. Everest. I just want to ride, trail, have FUN and be safe. I am NOT saying I won't do Hatfield and McCoy again b/c their green/blue trails were FUN and Awesome and very scenic! But they really are for more experienced riders and I was doing quite well for myself up to that point. I don't ride stupid but again accidents can happen anywhere and anytime, I got too much to live for and appreciate everything in life given to me, this is just a hobby and recreation. -- IMHO
Thanks,
