I have one of the old 1989 TB's with the flat gray plastic. I have been thinking about painting the plastic to liven up the old critter a bit. I don't want to put $200 worth of new plastic on the quad.

Is there anyone with any experience in this area to share? What colors/paint types do you all recommend? What should I stay away from?

I'm pretty open to ideas, so please let me know...

Thanks!

as for painting the plastic I would not suggest it the paint will chip crack and fall off because the plastic has to much flex for any kind of paint. However if you want to give the plastic a little more shine. start with 2000 grit wet sand paper and work up to 4 or 5000 and wet sand it then use a very fine compound do this until you can't see sand marks finish it off with a nice coat of wax this should take the fade and most of the scratches out.

There are some paints available that are made for plastic..... but I think they are a little harder to work with and pretty costly. I believe they are made by Dupont (of course, they make all the paint nowadays). I think I'd just put new plastic on. If the stuff Hot Seat carries will fit (I'm not sure on a '89) then you've only got $150 invested - or watch ebay - I've seen used plastic for sale there. Good luck.

Don't. I've done it. You will spend as much on prep and paint and flex agent as you do on new plastic. And lots of constant touch-up. If you are meticulous, you cn try Plastic Renew. I finished a green 300 4x4 that looks like new now. Takes lots of work, but it's only $20.

I don't think meticulosity will be a problem for Jim. Not being... that would be a problem.

Meticulosity????? -- I rather prefer Velocity. Though I don't get much of that from the Trailboss!
