03 sp500 coolant overflow.head gasket or air?
#1
Hi guys,
Thanks for looking, maybe someone can help me with this.
Just got this wheeler recently and have not rode it an hour. I've been too busy repairing the thing so I do not know the history.
The latest problem; Coolant overflowing from reservoir .
I just drained and refilled the radiator when I took it off to clean the backside which was full of mud.
Test Rode it for about 15-20 min, brought it back home and before I could turn it off it begun spilling.
It also did this before I flushed the radiator but I just figure it was due to me adding coolant to the reservoir.
So i let it idle with the cap off and eventually it rises to the top of the filler neck but takes about 20 min to want to spill out. When I turn it off ,it releases a couple of bubbles.
I dread the possibilities but Any help will be appreciated.

Is the fan coming on?? The fan should kick on WAY before she would get hot enough to puke water.
Stuck thermostat? If both upper & lower hoses get hot, that's not it.
Only fill the "puke" bottle to 1/2 way between the add & full.

Also when refilling radiator you must get all air out of system or can start puking coolant out of bottle. Leave cap off and run until fan kicks on (fan working as asked above?) then top off radiator, replace cap and fill resevoir bottle.

Yes the fan kicks in and coolant gets suck down, then it turns off and appears to come back up to the top.I turned it off before it could spill over the top of radiator fill neck.
When I started cold with cap off I could see the coolant moving at a tricke until I give it some throttle eventually flowing at a higher rate so I guess that means thermostat performing ok.
How do I rule out head gasket leak with out the proper tools?

like mentioned there is air in the system. Other than that the cap is not maintaining the pressure correctly. Here is a video on it.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4kT-d...rom=PL&index=5

Thank you guys for the advice , I really appreciate your time.Hopefully I can get all the air out.Since I have no way in testing the cap, I will just replace it. What is the pressure this cap opens up at anyway?
thanks for the link TLC

My manual says the rad caps relief presure is 13 psi. A auto rad shop will pressure test it for you.
In high light print it also states.
"The capacity of the coolant is small, and air pockets
will quickly result in over heating."
