04 sp500 belt question
#1
i seen on this forum a few years ago about being able to put a belt from a 700 on to a 500 and it would change your performance (more bottom end or more top end, i'm not shure) has anyone heard of this or done this with any good results???? i got a 04 so 500 and it's time for a new belt and was just wondering.

It won't give you any preformance boost, and if that was posted on here as advice, I'd like to see that post.
A 700 belt probably won't fit on a 500 because the motor and trans are mounted different than a 500 and if it did fit, it would be the same part number and therefore wouldn't change a thing.

Sounds like smoke and mirrors to me. Make sure you only use the Polaris belts. They cost more but are worth it! Bought a "high performance" aftermarket belt for my 02 700sp and it lasted all of 100 miles before dynamiting. Replaced with a stock one and never had any issues. If your belt isn't too bad when you replace it hang on to it as a spare if needed in a pinch.

actually i posted a long time ago about how i put a 700 belt on my 02' 500(which you can do and it fits fine) but didnt mentioned and is false about giving any more perforcemance as a belt change wouldnt give anything. bvasicly back then the difffernce was a 700 was a top cog groove belt wear the stock wasnt and a 700 belt ran cooler. imo

Use the Belt for your ATV. The only thing I remember abot the 500s is there are smooth tops belts and coged top belts for them.
The cog top belts are suppose to help circulate air in the belt housing better.
