Unless I'm going somewhere with my 29ft toyhauler the bike is in my truck. I have a short box and need to leave the gate open but I cut two 2x10s to the full length of the box to the end of the tailgate. That spreads the weight over the length of the box and takes the weight off the tailgate. I made my own stopper out of 2x10 scraps to prevent the bumper or winch from coming through the window. Works really well. Ramps are safe so long as they are secured to the bumper to stop them from kicking out.

Trailer 90% of the time....Aluminum sled trailer with 4 tie points. I think it's safer for the machine and my truck. The trailer rides really nice and has a built in ramp, so it's super easy to jump on and off and the ramp stores underneath. Trailer is really light, so I can unhook it from the truck and move it around with ease by myself up slight inclines or whatever. Folks have used their trucks exclusively for years though without problems. Certainly easier to move around and park in tight quarters.

I have a fiberglass cap (topper) on my truck so I have to use a trailer. I hated driving up a skinny ramp into the truck anyway and bought the trailer soon after my first quad.

Default My Solution

Here is what my buddy and I came up with as a solution to keep the weight off of the tailgate when hauling in the truck.

DITTO KW! Wow, that is what I need something like that. I assume its your own
fabrication? If not where did you get it and how much? If homemade you could make
a little side thing, I am sure many of us could put one to good use.

Thanks,

R'

trailer for sure, with my old chevy i perfected charlie's accident more than once. with my bike being over 500lbs its not fun luckly never came back just halfed on the tail gate. Now that i have a taller truck would never dare try loading on a truck and with a 16ft car hauler is much easier and the more 4 wheelers the funnier
