Possible ECM problems and recall
#21
They do give your with the replacement module a tube of dielectric grease that MUST be put on the connections before plug-in.........This helps with the moisture issue on the connections........Caper...........

The ECM was replaced on a recall so I do`nt know if the mechanic at the dealer put any dialectric compound on the terminal plug seal.
I`ll go out and check the plug seal and see if it has any grease on it.

That will definetely get done.
Even though there if there was`nt any dialectric grease on the seal I would think that with the box supposedly being sealed that there would be no way of water getting into the ECM.
On the automotive ecms, etc that are sealed the epoxy is poured into the assembled box filling evey crevice and pore including the area around where the plug goes into it`s receptacle.
If there was`nt any grease on the seal the only thing that should have been affected or corroded should have been the pins themselves.

I stopped by the dealer today to check as to how much dielectric compund was on the harness seal.I could`nt find the terminal plug end down under everything so I checked the module.
Wiped My finger around on the inside of where the terminal plugs into it and there was such a small amount of compound in there it could not be seen on My finger and just barely able to feel it.
I do`nt beleive there was enough compound in there to stop any moisture what ever.

I am having the same problams on my 500 ho but i was rideing mine when it shut off and i havent gotten anything to come back up on the display. It has had a computer put in it in the past for the fan running when it was just sittin in the garage but it has a black box on it so i wonder if it has had the recall done on it yet. Guess ill have to see

The new and improved version is an aluminum box,not black,.There were 2 recalls previous to the aluminum box.The first recall was a black box exactly like the original with no changes whatever in the way they function. The second black box recall did have some different components in it but they did`nt have it perfected as of that time.
Check with Your dealer and they will have to probably order one in for You.

Checking with the dealer on the recall for Your injected unit is a very good idea.
Also here is the Polaris webpage with the years and model nos. that are affected by the recall.
You may have to create an account to access this information but I would`nt think so.
