Default 700 Polaris EFI Need big help

well i was allowing a friend to pull by clutch assy off of my atv and evidently he wasn't thinking to straight. he put a punch up inside the clutch and then put the big bolt in the end to walk it off. the problem is that the punch ran up inside the crank end and the clutch didn't pop off. now the punch will not come out. has anyone ever had this happen and how did you get it out. any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like either way you might have damaged threads in the crank. you mean he just tried to use the clutch bolt itself or he used a 3/4" fine thread that screws inside the clutch threads?

he slid the punch up in there and then used the 3/4-16 fine thread bolt and it pushed the punch up into the bolt hole.

how much pressure did you guys use to the 3/4" bolt to try to get the clutch off? seems to me that you have to finish taking the clutch off before you can try to get the punch out as to me (just my own opinion)that the damage,if any, has been done already if you cant get access to the punch. theres about 50 ft lbs of pressure to put the clutch on so you might need more to pop it off. imo.

he ran it in with an impact and it brought the bolt to a dead stop. i'm guessing that the end of the crank has swelled out a little now that it has a punch in the end of it.

i've actually used my impack and put a good strain on the bolt then had to take a hammer w/ a few solid blows to the end of the puller to shock it off. just be careful not to do any damage by whaling on the end of it. i would try it it again the same way and maybe try a 3lb sled hammer size and give it a few square hits. but thats just me. good luck.

i think we are going to try adding some heat to the clutch to see if it will pop easier. light a candle for me..

heat on the clutch. dont know if thats a good idea but it is a tough chore ahead. too bad you couldnt freeze the punch w/ dry ice or something to shrink the steel punch. just be careul not to mess up the crank seal.

not to much extreme heat, just a heat gun. the 1 way bearing is already junk, that's why i was pulling it to begin with. if this don't work, it looks like i will be cutting the clutch in half..lol hopefully something works before it gets to that..
