Looking at the schematic, does anyone know which part number is for the rear axel nuts on the sprocket side?

It says Part #3, but it also calls out #3 for the rotor nuts.

Can anyone clarify the par number for the axle nuts that I may have to cut off when I remove the rear axle??

if your refering to the small lock nuts behind the brake rotor which are the same on both sides of the axle they are7542439NUT-LOCK-

 

No, the nuts that hold the axle to the housing. the ones that are a pain to get off, that sometimes they need cut off.....

 

There is two dif ones used the one that fit my 2001 TB and my 02 Scrammy is 7547031 not
sure of the other part#

 

I am trying to cut off that axle nut without messing up the threads on the axle. I am using a 3" air grinder. How have you guys done it?

 

Use plenty of PB Blaster and heat. A lot of the time you can air chisel the nut off if it's rusted. Yes I've cut nuts off before. Main thing is to STOP before you get all the way through. Usually then with penetrating oil and heat you can either impact it off or can cut it in two places and crack the nut in half. Had a guy come into the shop years ago selling home made Polaris axle nut tools. Had a 3' steel pipe with a welded socket on one end,1/2" short extension welded on the other for impacting these nuts off. Grabbed it quick for 50 bucks for the shop. Beats using channel locks,pipe wrenches,etc.

 

All I've ever used to take the axle nuts off a Gen3 like a Scrambler, Sport or Trailblazer is a pipe wrench. Be sure and remove the snap rings that hold it in place or you'll never get it off without cutting it. I've replaced axle's that were 13 years old and never had any problems with the nuts being rusty, but maybe I've just been lucky. If you upgrade to an aftermarket axle Durablue really makes a nice one for the Scrambler.

 

Thanks guys, I got it off! Now how does the axle come out? It won't just slide out to the left. Just hit it? Or do I try to pry out the race on the right? I don't want to break anything.
