Default Muffler Removal

Will it hurt my quad if i remove the muffler end? Then it will be more like a straight pipe. Im talking about removing it where those 2 springs hold it on.

You want to remove it permantaly or jsut temporary? Taking it off wont hurt it but it is OBNOXIOUSLY loud. My buddy jsut did the same for his while we modded the muffler and it was ridiculous.

Well i just want to see what it will sound like. But then my buddy was like won't that blow your engine, which made me wanna find out for sure what will happen. I just figure its like straight piping a car, add power and a lot of noise. I doubt i will keep it like that but i just wanna see what it sounds like. So as long as it wont harm my engine? ha

Nah, my buddy did it and rode it around for about 2 weeks and no problems. Guy at dealer we trust said it wont really hurt anything but he doesnt advise running it like that forever. I must say when you first take it off ur like DAMN THATS BADASS but after awhile it jsut gets annoying. So take er off and run around for awhile. Sounds good when you hammer on it. Oh and i suggest wearing safeties when u take the springs off. They tend to fly.

It will not hurt in the short term but if you do it for any length of time keep an eye on valve clearance/adjustments since the muffler gives backpressure.

Is there anything that you can do to create some back pressure without putting the muffler back on?

Make sure you arent breaking any noise ordinances, also the spark arrestor is in the muffler so dont ride around in dry areas you might start a fire.
