Once it starts I know its getting me home never a sensor or a black ( silver ) box to worry about . I guess only time will tell as I'm going for 20,000 miles in 6 years . Is there any riders on this form who have 20,000 miles problem free on a EFI machine please speak up . In the mean time I'll keep you posted on my quest to 20 thousand 4.5 years to go
This unit is the carbed version with a pull rope starter for a backup, after the terminals in the ECU corroded it would not start even by using the pull rope.DEAD/NADA/ZIP.LOL
Just do`nt do as I did and go thinking that pull rope will get You out of a situation.
Had the unit gone dead about 3 weeks previous I would have been stranded about 15 miles from the marina at Hell Creek in 15 degrees below zero weather.

You don't even know what you have, a carb machine don't have a ECU . A EFI machine also has a rope starter . I don't care what you think or know period . I buy what I think will last or run without a problems . I don't care about the cost I care about reliability - Period . You show me a EFI bike that has run longer with no problems and I'll buy one and I'm not talking about 3000miles I'm talking about 30 thousand .

i agree with the carb idea Spdecat has. iv seen, and heard more issues with efi's. seems like there still working out the bugs. and that ecu dont cost $260 i get sick of such markup prices. the electronics in that unit dont cost $10. over priced under built electronics. i had a 2000 sportsman carb. never had an issue with the engine or electronics. sold it with 7k miles and 600hrs. and i gota another carb. ill pass on an efi.... for now.....

Hey!!! I do know what I have and My 2005 sportsman does have a carb....
Take a look at the first page with the pics. and You tell Me what that silver box with all the electrical components is.
Whatever You want to call it an electrical control unit or module or what have You it is there and there is also a carberator on this model.
I would not have purchased it if it would have been a fuel injected model....

Hi Chuck
While the cost of the ECU was ONLY 139 bucks I figger that there is still a 129 dollar markup on that piece of overpriced aluminum and silicone.LOL

I have a carb 2006 Sp 450 (two of them) These ECM are really a Power Distribution Module(PDM).......They control the breakers(current protection), relays, cooling fan controls and maybe more,I can't think of right now off the top of my head.
I don't know why people are comparing the trouble with E.F.I.
......Caper..............
