Got about 900 miles on. Overheated twice- replaced tstat 1st time, 2nd was water pump leak, all on warranty. Ran pretty good for a couple months, moved into ext. warranty...fan quit working, $50 dect., started hearing some loud noises in the clutch, dealer put it on computer and cleaned it up.., now I'm dealing with the thing not wanting to idle. Tried new plugs and seemed ok for about 150 miles or so then started doing it again, cable is good and tight, plugs still look good, air filter is new. It's just not wanting to idle under about 2200 rpm, shuts right off. Seems like the fuel is getting cut out or something. Dealer looked at it, put it on computer...nothing... it's been sitting for a couple weeks now. I'm going to put in some new gas, dealer sed to try fuel injector cleaner, Ill try that too. I'll see how it runs tomorrow, I have about a 70 mile trip planned. Hopefully I make the trip this time. Last ride I made it 8 miles and couldn't keep the dam thing running. I was with two Can-am 800's too. I took quite a bashing over that one.

We have 2 02 SP500's, both with over 3700 miles. Both have had new belts because of our riding style. Replaced 1 boot on each quad and my carb is flooding and leaking from the over flow probably from dirt.
My wifes 850XP has 225 miles and the only trouble with it is she goes to fast, otherwise its perfect

Chuck, what did they say about the fuel sensor? I have similar issue, stays at 3/4 tank, they told me that the float could be hanging up on the inside, take a hanger and see if you can pull away. Well, that's a Poo shop for yah, and their "ageless" tools and certified fix!! I took the tank off, and you need a surgeon to extract the fuel assembly

Mine has about 250 miles on it now and ZERO problems. The wifes machine has about 200 miles on it and we fought electrical problems when it was still under warranty. It ended up being a wire harness that was rubbed through by the heatshield. Also have had trouble with one rear wheel staying tight (I think the dealer messed it up on day one). Oh...and the ecm fell off of its mount and was hanging by the wire harness when the machine had less than 5 hrs. on it... Lately all seems well...we'll see!

Thumbs up 2004 Sportsman 400

I have over 4,000 miles on my machine and the ONLY thing I had to replace was my battery and the "Warn" contactor.
It has been troubles free since i bought it new.
A hell of a good machine!
