Will a 77" x 12' ATV trailer (side and rear gate ramps - one sits sideways) work w/the XP's? The bikes spec at 83.25" length and 47.6" width - but does the trailer (if side load) have to be 83.25" wide at the side rails?

Was looking for a regular utility w/ rear gate - 5 or 6x14', but came across this one that may or may not work -

still leaning towards the 5x14 single rear ramp, just thought the side ramp style is nice b/c its a few feet shorter.

 

The length they give is from nose to tail, not from footprint to footprint. Used to load one of mine sideways on a 5x10 trailer. Not much room on either end, but it still fit. Should fit fine on a 6' wide trailer.

I have the Triton Sl-12 trailer. I've had mine since 2001 and it's been a great trailer. It's been drug back and forth from Michigan to Tennessee a zillion times and I love it. It's light, sturdy and easy to use.

We put our Sportsmans on there with no problem, unless the XP's are that much longer you shouldnt have any problem with it.

If you're only gonna put one four wheeler on that trailer in your pic, that's fine, otherwise having to push those things around to fit in sideways, is quite a task.

 

If you are looking for a trailer to haul 2 quads, buy one that loads from the rear and they sit one in front of the other. This is a better way to haul and provides less wind reseistance = better fuel mileage. What ever you buy, make sure the axel has a weight rating to handle 2 bikes, full of fuel and mud, with some capacity left over. JMO

 

Thanks - in your opinion(s), is there any real benefit to tandem axle if a single axle is rated to hold the two bikes? Besides getting a flat, I cant really see the tandem being worth the extra $$ ?

 

I have an Aluma 6316 Tandem Axle trailer and love it for 2 machines. I can fit 2 tracked atv's on it.

They also make a 6314 single axle.

If you're concerned about fuel mileage, buying a steel trailer might not be the way to go. The trailer at the link above weighs over 1100 pounds in itself. I can move my aluminum trailer around by myself, and have done so many times....I doubt the same can be said for that one.

Seems to me, if you're gonna buy a 12' trailer any ways, might as well get a side load one, that you can put 3 four wheelers on. You never know when that might become handy. I learned the hard way after buying a two place side load, then having to buy a three place one when my dad wanted to start riding...


just a thought.

btw, my trailer has a single axle. I've had 3 full sized atv's on it and put thousands of miles on it, packed like that. No problems at all.

 

You asked about the single .vs tandom axle. Well...the main issue is that the tandom axle trailer is more forgiving if you do not distribute the weight properly. If you do that on a single axle, it will let you know in a hurry with trailer sway.

I recently purchased a PJ 5'x12' single axle with 4' drop gate. Loading my XP...is a snap with about 3" on each side. Which is exactly what I was after. IMHO...a 5'x14' would be a tight fit with the two XP's loaded front to back. So...a 5'x16' would be a better choice. Especially if you add accessories like front and rear brush guard bumpers, etc.

Here are a couple of pics of my setup. Keep in mind that the XP does not ride alone. I usually have my kids 2008 Outlaw 50cc sitting sideways up at the front...with the XP over the axle.
