Thats a thought. I haven't disassembled any of it yet but it will be interesting to see if that was part of the problem.

I had the exact same thing happen. I lost a cap off my outer u joint and just barely made it out of the bush and it piled up on me broke the yoke. Bent the lower a arm. Was a wreck. I decide to just replace the entire axle shaft assembly. But I am having issues getting the old yoke free from the rear diff. Does anyone have any tricks to getting this out? Any input would be great thanks.

If you have the old 97/98 rear drive shafts, slide hammers, air hammers,Liquid Wrench,PB Blaster, etc and heat can help. But on some about as easy to remove the other drive shaft(if you can) and knock the damaged side out with an air impact through the rear of the gear case. Hard drive shafts to remove when corroded and frozen. If you have to remove the other shaft, when installing both back on,you have to go from side to side to tighten both drive shaft bolts into the spacer evenly.(item#10) Always use anti-seize on the splines on the new one.
