Here are some pictures of my work in progress. Its been a while since I posted photos of them so I figured it was overdue... These are my 2 retired Chicago Police Department Police All-Purpose Vehicles (P.A.P.V.). & what they looked like when I got them from Chicago.

Here's a little history on these rigs:
At various times between 1991 and 1993, 84 PAPVs were Manufactured and ultimately distributed to the City of Chicago. A PAPV is a modified 250cc Polaris Trail Boss all terrain vehicle(ATV) that was specially equipped pursuant to specifications provided by the City of Chicago to operate on city streets, beaches, and in parks in connection with various traffic and crowd control functions.

These modifications included installing turn signals, windshields, mirrors, horns & DOT approved Street tires. Additionally, they have Nonfango 938 storage trunks & Federal Signal Fireball II strobe pole warning lights, at a cost of $5999.00 each.

In 1990, R.L. Ryerson Co.,The Polaris distributor for Wisconsin and Northern Illinois and the Chicago Police Department requested Polaris to supply the City of Chicago with PAPVs due to the City's dire need to replace an aging fleet of three wheeled motorcycles that required substantial maintenance. These units were ultimately made, distributed to various police districts across Chicago & subsequently retired from service from the Chicago Police Department, replaced with similar Kawasaki units & eventually the Polaris units were sold at auction by the City of Chicago, in 2010.

Sweeeet job fixing them up. Not a big fan of police on the trails but they do look sharp fixed up.

 

I wish we had more here on the trails.

Well, after thinking about a new quad for the past year and a half I finally went for it. I had a small amount of money in retirement that wouldn't make much difference down the line. I got to thinking that with my back messing with my nervous system and diabetes, I may not even make it to retirement. So, I passed the idea with my wife and she was fine with it. (I've got a low maintenance wife, thank the Lord) Got a decent deal and they gave me what I wanted for trade in on the old X2 that struggled to get me up long open steep hills at anything above 30 mph. The only X2 850s they could find were a one used to plow the lot at another dealership and one 5+ hours away. I didn't want to buy a quad sight unseen so I went with this Can-Am Outlander Max 650 XT-P. Incredible package. Has an on board air compressor and air adjustable rear shocks with a push button to adjust right on the handlebars. Bead locks wheels, power steering, Warn 3000 lb. winch with remote cable, front and rear brush guards, really nice passenger seat, and hand guards. Haven't got out on the trails yet though. Can't wait.


I installed an aluminum box on the rear over the weekend. Kudos to Can-Am for having a good amount of rack space behind the passenger seat.
