Default XP service and valve adjustment/break in?

What is the break in schedule on these things, and do you need to bring it in for a valve adjustment at any point? This was the main selling point of my dealer's VIP service....something about an expensive break-in service...?

I just found a service manual on the forum and there is nothing that talks about a break in service besides changing oil....and only a valve 'inspection and adjustment at 1k hours....I think the dealer has some explaining to do.

Sounds like you bought your machine from a shady dealership.

The only break in I can find in my owner's manual is during the first 10 hours to not drive at constant RPM's, WOT, or with heavy loads. Vary the throttle and take it relatively easy. Then at 20 hours, change the oil and filter and you're good to go. At least that's what my manual said. Nothing said about valve adjustments as part of the break in procedure.
Cheers,

I have checked the service manual, but for sportsman 500 and there is inspection and adjustment every 100 hours.

it breaks down to about $215/year per quad - do you guys think thats a fair price to pay for ALL service+oil/filters/adjustments/etc for a year? Includes same day in and out of the shop as well.......

Just trying to decide whether to have them redo the paperwork and save some $$......after all if its mostly oil changes I can do that myself...

Apparently the intervals for the 500 do not apply to the 550..the 550 Owner's Manual list 1000 hours or 10000 miles..just like is prescribed for the 850.
