Angry 92 polaris 350l....counterbalance

I have a 350l which is currently being rebuilt; the problem is that I bought it as a basket case and all the parts are present. But I got the new bearings for the entire motor and don't know the position to press the counterbalance gear onto the counterbalance shaft. Noting there are timing marks on the drive and driven gears.

Any help with this would be greatly appreciately.

IF you were able to get a replacement c/b bearing and IF its still complete, you can etch a mark on the c/b shaft body and inner part of the gear for reference. This should keep the gear timing mark in the proper place. The hard part is to press off and on with out damaging the water pump shaft or breaking the gear! I've done both in the past! First thing to check anyway is the condition of the shaft where the water pump bearing and seals ride.If its all grooved up and cant be emory clothed smooth, then wouldn't probably seal correctly and leak! You have to have a good press and plenty of heat and can still do damage! BUT if you are able to get it done, can save you some $$$ on a new c/b assy! Good luck OPT

Lightbulb any ideas...

Sounds good; i have a great little press. The issue is that the gear is off of the c/b shaft already. I have looked for an etch mark and cannot seem to see any indicators of what its original indexing was. I guess thats what you get for buying a basket case. Any ideas????

I'm afraid not now! Balancing is critical and with no reference mark you are guessing. If possible to find another one complete, then maybe you can index pretty close? If not then new one or E-bay Good luck OPT
