The drain plug is on the lower left side and it is plastic,it has a hex and a slot so you could use a wrench or flat tip screw driver..but it is soft plastic. I suggest taking it out and screwing it back in hand tight..it has an o-ring on it so as long as you can screw it back in upto the O-ring it should not leak..also there is a little interference in the soft threads so it should not back out..that way you can remove it by hand when the need arises..I know a few guys who run theirs this way.

From personal experience, the one intake for the PVT that has the rubber boot on it was completely off on mine. I took it out for a spin and brought it back home only to find it off. Looks like it was never tightned up to begin with. Luckily it was dry where i was.

But remember in your service manual if you pass the foot rest's the warranty is void. So put on a 10" lift kit and see if they still void the warranty if it reaches the running boards.lol.

Rut...You'll need a 9/16 ratchet wrench...the shorter the better. It's a tight squeeze in there with the left tire on. You need to get in by going perpendicular to the left tire and down. Not that bad.

I snugged it, just beyond finger tight. Afraid it would back out over time. Prob not a worry though.

Stealth.....I rode it back thankfully. I "forgot" about the putting it in park concept and letting her dry out.....oops. I let it drain and pushed it back and forth to get as much water out as possible, the ran back and forth....slowly at first until it dried. Once it started to dry out, it moved OK.

HO's idea of pulling the seat and waiting for the water to stop flying out of the PVT exhaust before you try to move is the way to go.

Not good. Great, that you checked!

Moose: I was riding just north of Topsham, ME. There's some great day riding there (as long as you stay out of the 7' deep tar pits). Nice weekend ahead for sure.

So I took the belt off and washed the whole clutch area out with a mild cleaner. I then scrubbed both sides of the belt with light sandpaper and then washed the belt with soap and water. Also used some clean shop rags and completely wiped the inside of the sheaves. Even after the cleaning, there was grit.

What I did find is that one could likely pull the seat off and blast water from a hose down the intake to clean the inside without having to take the PVT cover off. Let it flow for a bit, then spin it dry in Park. Seems like it would be pretty effective until you get back to your shop for a proper cleaning.

Now that the belt is totally clean and roughed up a bit, it is noticeably grippier for lack of a better term. It'll smooth out next ride (tomorrow AM with waders).

Checked the air cleaner....was nice and dry. Definitely higher than the PVT intake. I did notice something relatively serious that's worthy of a new post. Try to do that over the weekend.

Thanks for the input.

Not a totally unfamiliar situation, but have never had the 850 this deep yet. It was up about mid-way through the front lights, about at the bottom of the seat. Luckily I met a guy on the trail that I was riding with and he's laughing on the side after having taken the safer route. I was able to scurry across the seat and managed to get the winch rope out for him and avoided going swimming in the muck. He could not budge the rig with his Sportsman 800....suction was crazy on the underside. Finally after a half hour of pulling, we got it free from the muck. Let it drain for a bit before attempting to move forward. It stayed running the whole time it was submerged, and I didn't suck any mud water into the air cleaner. HOWEVER, the PVT was loaded with mud water and obviously was not real keen on providing forward motion....big problem. The laughter soon died off when I pulled the plug on the PVT and watched quarts of nasty muck pour out.
Sounds like a good time with your XP!

To bad to hear about the water/muck getting into the PVT housing. Glad to see that all is cleaned and ready for your next ride.
