Default '05 Sportsman overheating

I have a 05 Sportsman that is always overheating. I have cleaned the radiator from front to back but after about 2-3 miles of trails it will overheat and boilover out of the overflow tank. The fan works (works so well that it will kill my battary). Any ideas as to what I'm suppose to do?

When was the last time you changed the coolant? When you did do the change...are you sure there are no air pockets in the system? If you have an air pocket...the overheating will happen often.

Good luck...

It could be your water pump.

Check the temp sensor, on lower right side of radiator there is a sensor, the book says to put it in a pan of water and heat it to 180-200 degrees and check across both wires for continuity, Ill bet its bad if your radiator is clean, same with the thermostat, you can put it in water, heat it and watch it open.

Sounds like you have air in the system and it needs a big burp. A manual tells you how to get the air out or just used the search feature on this site to find out how others do it.

you said you cleaned radiator, did you remove entire front grill and brushguard? if not your not cleaning enough of the radiator to help it cool, there are only four screws that hold brushguard on machine. its the only way to get it totally clean.
