I have a 2000 500 sportsman. I ride on trails that are all sand with lots of water holes. My current 500 seems to go through brakes on these trails like gangbusters. New set every day about 300 miles a day. I love the EBS system, as I very rarely use the hand brakes. These are Polaris Severe Duty Pads. I am going to trade for a H.O. RSE this spring. They have improved brakes, how do they hold up in the SAND, mud and water?

I quit using Polaris pads after the first change out (about 200 miles)(warranty). 2 things I did to extend my pad life to 1000+ miles. Installed HD pads from after-market suppliers and the other thing I did was to rely on the EBS more than I used to.

Traildog, What kind of brake pads are you using? Where did you get them? Cost?

any aftermarket co. brand of severe duty pads would be better than polaris o.e.m. you can also take a look at boxbrakes.com he sells brass brake pads that are probably the best in lasting..i have a set but havent installed them yet but i know they`ll last alot longer than any other pad for my type of riding

My first and second set of HD pads were from JL ATV Products the cost was about $22-$24. The last set was from Hot Seat Performance, the brand name is Premier, part# Pr257 rear $20, Pr159 front $18. All the HD pads do better that the OEM pads. Typically I get about 1000 miles out of each set.
