I heard from my dealers service techs that you can add the EBS on. He said its a pretty easy install of the clutch system.

Cheers,

I think what you are looking for is called ADC, Active Descent Control. I'm pretty sure your quad has EBS which is rear wheel only Engine Braking System. I was soooo happy when they came out with ADC a couple months after I bought my X2....

You can add the EBS but right now with rebates and pricing I would look to get another machine.

You can get a 2009 800 for $5995.

When they start that? My 2001 500 H.O has EBS and my friends 1998 500 H.O also.

From this Video all the EBS is, is a one way bearing on the Primary drive pulley.

I know ebs was not offered on any 1997 models but in 98 Polaris put EBS on all there SP500 and on ward to a certain year, I guess at some point Polaris got cheap and decided to make EBS a option rather then standard issue on the SP500s in later years.
