Default Compression Testing

What's the easiest way to take a compression test? I mean is there an easier way to do a comp. test w/o taking so much off the ATV? I can reach under my paneling to get the compression tester into the spark plug whole, but it's hard to tighten with the tester hose due to lack of room to tighten.

I own a 1998 Polaris Xpress 300

that is way to do it for best results imo. do it when the engine is cold and wide open throttle for true reading.

On the old 2-strokes one way is the "old thumb pop test" If you crank over and pops your thumb from plug hole while you hold down tight,"usually fair enough compression.Also does recoil have a "fair" amount of resistance when rope pulled? These are not the best way I know,BUT can give you a general idea without having to lift or remove tank or buy smaller jointed compression adapters.

I'm sure this is posted somewhere else, but I just did a solid compression test reading a few hours ago and didn't have much- 30lbs.

So I started the process of tearing down the motor.

Got all the bolts off to pull the head, how do I go abouts disconnecting the piston head?

on the side of the piston pin there are clips on each side...use a pick is best..... make sure you put the new piston and rings in the right way arrow toward mag

When removing the piston from the head of the motor, can it be kind tuff?
Is it supposed to slide right off or kinda pop off?

there is a circlip inside the piston on both sides. take one side out. then push the wrist pin out of the piston. if there was a failure from lack of oil then yes the wrist pin can be kind of tough to get out. i usually find a deep socket that fits in the bore of the piston for the wrist pin. get somebody to hold the piston solid and hit the socket a few times to push the wrist pin out. generally you will have to tap it all the way through although there are few lucky breaks that once its broke loose, it will slide out the rest of the way on its own.
