There can be many factors that could cause a ride to lose 3mph. Air pressure in tires, head wind, tale wind, elevation...

Yeah, I say the first year ( 87) LT500R's were the fastest...they had a larger reed cage and would crank to darn near 80.....

Bikes with displacement over 450cc's average about the same speeds. Factors such as gearing, rider weight, tire size/pressure can easily change your speed.

I ride a 2006 Suzuki LT-R450 with a full Trinity exhaust, open air box, k and n air filter and an EFI Fuel Controller. I have not lost to any other 450's or 700's but banshee's and quadzilla's dominate. I'm not sure when the latest quadzilla was made but the banshee's discontinued in 2006 and their by far the fastest quad. Their soon to be re-united with the 2010 500cc four stroke banshee. We'll see how that goes!

A stock banshee runs like fat pig...today's 450s, 700, would smoke it..I had a stock 04 banshee, raced my buddys yfz450 when they fist came out and beat me..would pull bike lengths on me..Now saying that we would race 280-300 ft..we don't peg out bikes for a mile so I can finally get passed you at 3/4 mile...the 700 raptor is not joke neither would beat any 450 out there on drag race....yes quadzilla was fastest in stock form for a while..ktm 525 i have not seen one race are suppose fast..but don't forget the thunder cat 1000/ can am 850/polaris 850...there are alot of bigbore machines that are fast... to say what is the fastest these days...I have to say they are all fast once you get into 450's-850s..

but hey who ever kept a stock banshee...these bike are easy and cheap to go fast compared to the 4 stokes...

Usually the motocross powered ATVs are the most stressed out performance motor and since the 510 KTM motor is the largest displacement motorcross motor made I would say a KTM 525 or Polaris 525. The larger 700 ATV are derived from a comer Eduro motorcycle motor not a stung out motocross motor.

Even though a XR 650 has a larger motor then a CR450 I would bet on the 450 motocross not the 650 enduro. You cant enter a 525 KTM in a 450 motocross race they make a 450 KTM for that.
