Question Setting Float height

Ok so the carb is still leaking on my 04 Sportsman 600 when i rev it up. spitting from the overflow tube. Ive checked everything, Ive replaced the needle valve and the seat and now I think the float height might be off. Anyone have a good way of setting this? Ive never done one before.

thanks.

With carb held sideways, check that the float is parallel with carb body and that float tang is just touching (not pushing) needle pin. If off then tang can be SLIGHTLY bent to adjust. This should get you fairly close,if still leaking from back of carb then check for other problems (diaphram, spring, slide needle correctly held down in slide,etc)..Check float also for damage (gas in float from a pin hole) rare, but can happen.

Default Carb

Check if there is a nipple on the float bowl with a screw by it. Get some clear plastic tubing and hook it to the nipple and hold it vertically next to the carb. Fire it up and then open the screw. Gas will flow into the tube and you will see where the float height is set. If it is too high then you can adjust it by bending the tang on the float. Never had to mess with it on my old wheeler but that is how I would set the float height on my street bikes when I would re-jet.

All looks good but still spits fuel at high rpms from the overflow tube. Floats are bang on 13.5mm, new needle valve and seat, pilot screw is 1.5 turns out from seated position. It looks perfect to me, all vent lines are clear of crap, the only thing that bothers me is that the drain screw on the float bowl looks like it might be broken on the end of it. Its all jagged and not smooth.

I know this thread is old but I had the same issue and it turned out to be a hairline crack in the overflow tube. It happens. Just figured I'd post in case it could help anyone.
