Default 07 Sportsman 800 EFI Fuel Gauge/ Seafoam

First, thanks for everyones help on this board.

I had posted earlier about my 800 EFI idling a little rough, essentially would idle then hicup the rpm's between 700 and 900 (according to the speedo). This unit only has 20 hrs on it now.

Anyway, I drained the old gas, add 2-3 gallons of seafoam treated gasoline, took the hose off the TB and sprayed those components with 3M throttle plate cleaner (it was black before i did this). Anyway, all seems to work correctly. One thing I noticed is the amount of bubbles in the fuel tank now while the unit is idling...I don't remember seeing these before when it was running rough. Is this a problem? The other thing I noticed is the speedo shows the fuel tank to be full..its not. I might have a 1/2 to 3/4 a tank. Is this related to the bubbles? Did I bump something when placing the tube in the gas tank to drain the old gas? seafoam?

Thanks

Or did I mess something up with the fuel gauge by entering diagnostic mode?

The bubbles are probably from the fuel return line. The fuel not burned is returned to the tank.

The fuel gage is wrong because of gunk on the metering rod. Pull it and clean it , or do as some have done and run some Chevron Techron Fuel System cleaner mixed in the gas. After the SeaFoam, of course.

All this is from modern gasoline formulations. E85, Ethanol spiked gasoline, etc.

Thanks Lefty. This thing is hitting the trails Sunday afternoon. We'll see how she does.

If you take a close look at the gas tank from a side perspective you'll notice how deep it is in the front but get more shallow towards the rear....So it will read full for quit a while then start dropping very quickly due to the shape of the tank...I'd suggest if you're goin more than 50 miles, you should carry some extra fuel.....Good luck....

I run Sea Foam in both my 500 and 325 and have never had any problems with it (8yrs in the 325). The good thing about it is that not only is it an excellent system cleaner but it is a stabiliser also. I agree with HeftyLefty, I would pull metering rod and clean it.

Your problem with the gauge not reading accurately is the way the rod and float set in the tank, one Poo worst design flaws ever. If you look at the contour of the tank, the float is so close to the side wall, that it hangs up on the wall itself. I have gone back and forth with the Poo dealer on mine since it was new, and finally a coat hanger, pulling away for the gas tank side wall, and never a problem since!!!
