95 xplorer 400 idles bogs and dies

Problem Solved:
Symptoms that led us to the problem were intermittent spark or no spark. Sometimes you would hit the start button and get just one spark. We pulled the rotor and discovered the stator wires were cut by the rotor. How did this happen you may ask? I had the lower end rebuilt 2 years ago by the polaris dealer and the mech did not run the wires into the back of the housing and left them exposed enough to rub slightly against the rotor. I do recall that over the last few months the bike would idle rough on startup but would come out of it after riding for a few minutes.
