1994 polaris 400L

Hi guys
If anyone could help me with the charging problem on my bike it would be great. I have replaced the regulator with a new polaris R/R. Have replaced the stator with 2 used ones from a bike shop, which they claim that they are in good working order. Bike runs good but won't charge. Tested stator by doing the ohms test from yellow - yellow /red & yellow to yellow/brown and it reads within the specks. Whats the output for AC Volts coming out of the stator? I've heard its suppose to be around 50 volts ac. Either I got stuck with duds of stators or the r/r is faulty from factory. If you have any input that would be great.
Thanks

you haven't by any chance changed the flywheel lately have you.
Which iginition do you have ? Is this a sport or a 4x4.
see some flywheels have 6 magnets the other ones have 4
makes it not charge very well.

No I have not, but I will be in there very soon... on my way through to repair a leaky water pump seal that's weeping a little into my counterbalance oil.
So I will do whatever I can for you as I do... just ask.
Mine is a '99 Sport 400.... (Scrambler 400 2x4).
Mine is good, but I can tell you it does not put out enough power at idle to run my single little headlight without a battery. Without one, it will come on at revs and go back out at idle... lol...

The charging stator is a 200 watt, with 8 copper wound coils and a exciter coil. The magneto is a 4 magnet flywheel that was new and installed by previous owner. Now that you brought this up about which magneto I have, is the one installed the right one? There is about .035 clearance from magnet to laminates/coils. The ATV is a 400L 2 stroke 4x4 and not a sport Bike. The battery was replaced with new one and holding charge over 12.5 volts, but when bike is running it starts to draw volts when lights are turned on and cooling fan starts up. When I rev it up and do a volts test, it goes up .5 volts. let me know what you think.
Thanks

Well I'd say that is your problem. The newer 200 watt system that was only used on the xplorer and sportsman uses a 6 magnet flywheel. Which regulator does it have? they are different too. the cdi box would have to been changed too.
3 years ago I rebuilt a 95 xplorer, with parts from here and there. ended up using the the really nice looking flywheel from the scrambler woops. I didn't figure it out myself. I was checking everything. I put the other stator I had in. No change. So my friend who is way too smart for his own good, says so there is different outputs possible on a 400 hey. hmm he says are the flywheels the same. I guess he noticed years ago that the new sleds with 300 and 400 watt charging systems had flywheels with more magnets.
well that's my story, good luck

I still have to pick up the magneto from the bike shop. Good thing buddy at the bike shop is willing to take the stator back in exchange for the magneto. Thanks for the info and I hope this solves the problem. If that don't work, I'm taking the bike over a cliff, bye-bye bike.
Thanks again
