Shorted heat sensor on cylinder can cause fan and hot light problems. Also ecm modules on certain machines can do the same. What year and model?

if it an 05',06' it might just be one of the bad ecm's. if so there is a recall on most of the models and a dealer could run your vin# to check. imo.

Whether a 500 or 700?? both have a temp sensor on block that can short out and cause fan to stay on and hot light also. Radiator sensor can be a problem also. You can check the sensor with an ohm meter when cold and then when warm see if readings are different. If doesnt vary or shorted out, then replace. If checks out ok then possible radiator sensor. Be a little more specific on the machine you have so posters can help you!! Good luck OPT

it can range from all that to just simply cleaning off the battery post. if it where me i would try that then resort to do everything else.

With the key off(fan running) ..The battery post should not make any differance?..Clean or dirty.

Sorry for not posting make and model, but anyway it's a 2007 Sportsman 450,less than 40 operating hours, bought in January 2009 off dealers floor for a decent price.Since I am in town today gonna chance it and pick up a new thermosensor.

you might have the dealer run your vin# to see if it was part of the recall for a bad ecm. like caper my 06' sp 450(like yours) was recalled as well but i had already sold it. it sounds like a bad ecm.
