SLED QUESTION (motor swap)

ok i know this isnt a sled site but i figure its worth a try... i just got a 96 polaris indy 700 triple or 680 or somthing like that... anywho.. it has no motor.. but i have found a 600 triple outta a older polaris... will this bolt rite in... ? any help will be appricated

The older tripples were pretty similar, the big thing to check is the type of tripple that was in there, check with a dealer. If it had the "tripple-tripple", it will have 3 seperate heads, and 3 pipes, this was the high performance engine. The standard tripple was a single head, all exhaust ports into one pipe design. Some of the eariler ones had problems burning the piston on the outside left jug, something to do with oil not getting to the journals, and running hotter and leaner on that side, so you had to jet up on that cylinder to keep the temps in line. Make sure any used engine you get is lower miles, or been rebuilt, or you could be buying a big bucket of trouble. The tripple was a great powerhouse, smoother running than the twin, but if not taken care of properly, gets pretty expensive in a hurry.

well the motor is outta a sled my girlfriends dad has and he races vintage sleds around wisconsin... he owns a machine shop and builds all his own motors.. so im not worryed about workin on it.. or doin work to it... i havnt seen the motor yet and im anxious to see if it will fit!!!

is it a 680 ultra or a xc 700. clutching might have to be matched w/ sled gearing and it might just bolt right onto the engine mounts. can you psot a pic of it and we can tell you what it is.

i dont have it hear i dropped it off at my girlfriends brothers house... im sure the sled i have is the ultra.. i know its a 96 polaris indy 680 ultra, triple with the single pipe.. im not sure what the other motor is outta.. i just know its a 600 triple..im prolly getting ahead of myself... im just curious.. i'll be goin out there tomarrow to look at the other motor and make sure it will work..
