HD mount for Garmin GPSs
#1
This mount is specifically made for Garmin GPS units. It can be adapted for handlebars or car dash. It is the Touratech mount at the top of the page.

Very interesting, thanks for sharing the information. The HD mount looks sturdy and well-designed from the photographs.
Although specified for "1/2" diameter" handlebars; looks like the split clamps would fit ATV bars (I think ATV handlebars run a lot closer to 1" in diameter).
However, a fairly wide handlebar space will be required to find room for this mount, compared to the Garmin handlebar mount, requiring only about 7/8" handlebar space.
The HD mount is rather pricey (compared to Garmin's); $ 89; plus another $ 20 for "hardening," if you're really serious.
I think the Garmin mount costs about $ 30 (look it up in your Cabella's catalog); it's stronger than it looks, but probably doesn't provide either the strength or degree of shock-mounting of the HD mount.
Gramin charged me about $ 89 to repair my GPS II+, after its innards got shaken up (display screen bonding) while mounted in a Garmin mount on my ATV handlebars. Maybe a HD mount would have prevented this malfunction!

Tree Farmer,
RAM makes a mount for the larger handlebars, you can also add a suction cup for window mounting in your truck/car. These guys arn't the only ones selling RAM mounts, so you can search the internet, but they may be the only ones to sell the HD carrier.
Here is the site for 7/8"-1" handlebar mount.

I'm running the RAM mount and really like it. We were talking about this the other day in the Other ATV Topics forum. There is a pic of my mount at:

Mounted mine on top of my CB radio with velcro. The velco gives it a sort of a shock absorbing effect by letting it move a little when going over rough ground. Easy to take off and on if you need to fast. No problems with set up yet. You can get a little creative buy making your own bracket and the price is practicly nothing.
