i was talking to my dealer who i bought all 3 of my quads from the other day, and he brought up that polaris had a 700 twin 4-stroke straped to a dyno up in oceola wisconsin (one of the major engine manufactoring plants) that they where putting into the sportsmen. i said, do you read the fourms at atving.com? he said he had never heard of the sight. they didnt want andyone in there but he sneeked in or something. he said they where going to put it in the scrambler too. i dont know if he was just messing around, but it came from somewhere else, so who knows.

Interesting story, but: how did the source know he saw a 700cc engine under test? Also, how did he know the 700cc V-twin four-stroke engine he saw was destined for a Sportsman?
He says no one wanted him around, that he had to sneak in. Given the secretive nature of the operation, surely the factory people didn't brief him on what he saw, do you think?
Imagine the conversation, "What are you doing here? You're not supposed to see or know anything about this dyno test of a 700cc V-twin four-stroke engine we're going to mount in a Sportsman. This project is very hush-hush!"
While I'd welcome a 700cc Polaris, most rumors appear based more on wishful thinking than on evidence at this time. (Remember the post about the fifty 700cc Polaris ATV's being hand-assembled in the plant? Eye-witness report, too!)

Don't be surprised when it (Sportsman 700) comes out in August. Reasons:
1. They get to see what this Kaw 650 will do!
2. It's right before hunting season (say Sportsman).
3. They will have a full year of tests since we first heard of the rumor. Polaris says they won't release another machine until it's ready (see 1995 Magnum 425, 1996 Sportsman 500 & many more).
For a utility/hunting model it makes no sense to come out with it until late summer.
Note to Polaris: Make it light, make it under $7200

the reason we havent seen a sp700 yet is because there is no reason for one. the HO is still the current king, so it would be competing with another polaris product.
maybee our friend Polcat has some new news as when the new "flagship" will be released??
surely polaris doesent want to loose sales and market share to the new kawie650, and that comes out next month.

i think there was a thing at the factory... he wanted to find out more so he just snuck over to peek. he didnt talk much about it, just thought i would like to know. i didnt hear about the efi, or that it was going to be a v twin, i just heard twin. if they are putting it into a sled, i bet it will be an inline. just a guess.
