Default Clutch problems

I have a problem with the belt slipping on my 1999 sportsman 5oo when i go through water even a little bit of water. Somebody suggested that my clutch could be adjusted to tighten the belt. Is this possible and how and has anybody else had problems with their belts slipping.

chances are the belt could be worn out if it has some age on it or it may be glazed over as well. i would take clutch cover off and inspect the belt and clean clutches. the belt should be sitting about 1/8" above the secondary(driven)clutch. also the clutch cover shouldn't be letting water in unless it has a bad seal so you may want to get a new seal or least check the gasket thats in there.

Easy way to check for water behind the cover is to remove the Red nut on the back of the cover by left rear tire. Stendori has it nailed down for yah, and you will want to rebuild the clutches if Water is getting past the cover seal.
