I understand that Polaris ATVs have come a LONG ways since than, but even back in 1999 and 2000, these SAME Polaris forums were always busy, mostly with disgruntled customers.

Today, im taking my neighbors to various ATV dealerships and thought I would take a peek in the Polaris forums to see who's having problems with their ATVs and what those models are.

However, my better judgement tells me that I think I'll play it safe and do what I said I'd do WAY back in 2002 when I got rid of my Polaris ATVs----said I'd never buy another one..

Im going to play it safe and take them to my Can Am dealer.

I like the looks of the CanAm's. In fact I just bought another ATV and it was between another Popo or the CanAm.

Here's how I played it safe. read the first TWO pages of the Polaris forum and you will find maybe 3 problem Polaris ATVs.(snow plows don't count)

Now go to the Can Am section. (there are TWO sections- "ASK THE EXPERT" and the basic one)

Here are the topics on the FIRST page of the BASIC CAN AM Forum:

-Fuse keeps blowing
-Runs Rich 3500-4000RPMs
-Electric shift prob- Bleed?
-HELP! Starts sometimes
-Belt slipping

Here are the topics on the FIRST page of the CanAm "ASK THE EXPERT"

-Running Rough
-Water Pump
-Tuning needed
-Valve noise
-Oil light on
-Rear wheel bearing blues
-Ft A-arm bearing blues
-Ball joints
-Baja no spark

Keep in mind these BRP problem topics were taken from only the FIRST page!

That's 14 PROBLEMS bro!! OMG!!

What's up with that!!!

Oh out of fairness to CanAm I visited the FIRST page only of the HONDA forum and here is what I found:

-Rattling noise
-Engine cutting out
-lifter valve
-Lost reverse
-HELP!
-Rear end leak
-Shifting problem
-Tranny Help

Yah,
It really comes down to what YOU like in an ATV..I will say that I do like the features on the big bore Polaris ATV's, but I also liked their features way back in 1999 and 2000 when their ATVs gave me nothing but headaches.

Im betting that today, Polaris makes a pretty damn good ATV, but the two lemons I bought, is a time of my life that I will never forget.

Just got back from taking my next door neighbors ATV shopping. They come home with a brand new 2009 800cc XT Max [ 9.400 ] and a 2009 Kawi 250cc Bayou [ 3.200 ]

Buy what fits your needs because I think most all of todays ATVs are going to be pretty good quads no matter who makes them.

This is the best Polaris forum I know of. Lot's of knowledge and experience here.

I spent a few years getting beat to death on the trails on different machines and coming home completely exausted. Not from the trails but from the machine. From the bad seats to engine vibration to the rough suspension.

I have never been brand loyal. I've been lucky enough to have had some seat time on every larger bore machine made with the exception of the new Thundercat. From my experience, the Sportsman is the smoothest, most comfortable, best built and most trail confident ATV on the market. The overall package of the Outlander's come close and so does the ride comfort of the Grizzly. Every machine has it's own asset/liability list. The Sportsman's assets far outweigh it's liabilities.
