Default 1994 Polaris 400L 4X4 current draw when machine is off

Hello, I am new here. I have been digging around for a while, but I can't seem to find any info on this.
When my machine is off (key removed, switch off), I am still getting 1.14mA current draw from the battery. This is killing my battery over a couple of days. The current is coming from the skinny red wire on the battery terminal, Is this normal? Or is something behaving badly? I could disconnect the battery after every use, but that would be painful. Thanks for any help.

You say the kill switch is off?

Check for a shafed wire touching ground.....

Yes, Kill switch is off.

I was afraid of a wire with a short. That is going to be tough to find in that birds nest.

1.4 millamps ? thats only .00114 amps and should hardly kill your battery over a few days. Are you sure that your battery is not just going bad? If you had a short you would likely be drawing A LOT more then 1.14mA..

Also with the ignition off there is no power going to any accessories, even if there was a short..

The only systems that have a connection to full time 12v according to the wiring schematic is as follows.... stator, regulator, cdi unit, and the ignition switch. Some specific models have less connections to only the regulator and ignition. What exact model do you have?

So after a couple of hours of poking around last night, I found that the Rectifier(Polaris part number 4060113) had a 50 Ohm short from power(Red wire) to ground. Which is confusing because it still seems to work??? Once the red wire was disconnected the 1.14mA went away. So I should probably replace it?

The exact model is 4X4 400L W948140

I am having the same problem with my 400L. Did this fix your problem. Also my 400L will not shut off with the key switch nor the shut off switch any ideas on that. Thanks

Yes, the current draw went down to almost nothing. If I can remember correctly, the new part had a resistance of 900Kohm from the red wire to ground. So do a resistance check on the wires and if you see a small resistance it is probably toast. All of my problems seem to stem from running with a bad battery and blowing everything. I can't help you out on the not turning off problem, I haven't had that one yet!!
