trail boss problems

I just got this 91 trail boss 2x4 and it run poorly so I changed the crank seals and gaskets. run great after that. afew days ago I drove through about 3 inches of water and then I turned off the engine and now she wont start. plus I am having trouble with the starts. I have to turn the starter 1/4 turn before I use the starter. I checked everything I could. when I try to start it it wont fire, no fuel on the spark plug. or seems like. fuel spits out on the air filter though. do these thing usually have trouble with compression? I mean she ran great before this happened. the only thing I can think of is that the starter drains the battery too much to have good spark... could that happen with a quad like this? I haven't checked the compression with a tester but it seems pretty strong. I cleaned the carb and new spark plug. any help would be a great start

it wouldn't hurt to check for compression as it should be above 100 psi. sounds like you thought you had an air leak i'm guessing since yu changed the seals. can you pull start the bike or have spark to the plug? it might be the plug wire or cap is bad if you went thru water and it doesn't want to run from getting wet. the starter might have a dead spot in it. a few differnt things so check. it might not hurt to pull the carb and clean it as well. imo

Did you also check the intake boot (carb to cylinder) for cuts or coming apart when you removed carb? The driving through water might not have anything to do with problem--just seem like it! I have a '92 and it pull starts easy. I have to replace the boot now on it. It has come 1/2 apart at cylinder flange. It would not idle and hard to start. I thought it was a plugged jet or water but when I started to pull the carb I could see the boot comming apart.

did a compression test today and found the I only have 80 psi... am I going to see something I don't want to when I take the head off? is it going to be a big job to fix it?

as ftwflh mentioned it's time for a top end rebuild w/ only 80 psi. just by boring to the next size over w/ new piston/rings and a hone job you won't need to change the jets or settings if thats what your asking. imo
