I recently acquired a '98 Polaris 300 Express 2x4, and it has some tendencies that seem odd. The key switch has two settings when turned "on" or clockwise. Upon the first "click" the cooling fan activates and will stay on continuously. The electric start, ignition and lights function normally at this setting. If you turn to the second "click" the cooling fan shuts off, but lights and electric start will not function. But on this setting the ignition is still active and will pull start just fine.

I would like to locate a wiring diagram for this, but I really do not want to spend $50 on a service manual. Is there anyone out there with a Service Manual that would share this info with me?

 

Come on guys... Nothing? Nobody out there has a diagram they will share? How about the general function of the key switch?

 

Sounds like you need to change out the key switch first! I've had em short out like this. Plus the older models only were off and on with start button on left control switch. I've had customers try to use the older switches like a car switch and turn too far and break or damage switch.
