Polaris DOES have a 700 twin with EFI

People what you are forgetting about the suzuki 660 triple is that it has been used for over 10 years in japan race cars. There is a an Artic-Cat turbo model they are testing, EFI, cams all kinds of aftermarket stuff for that engine.
Polaris 700cc twin is the engine that is going to be a dog with 48 HP. My HO has 38 HP with 500cc's. Polaris had better get there $hit together fast.

When it comes to thumpers You can still get alott of power out them. Look at the new class of sport bikes. If you doubt me. Espeacialy the 600cc class, the new Suzuki gsxr is putting little over a hundred hp at the rear rear wheel. Most of the others are putting mid to high ninties at the rear wheel. That pretty awesome in stock form for a 600cc fourstroke, at the wheel. So you figure 10% power loss through the drivetrain. These bikes are near a 110hp at the crank. That brings them close to 600class of sleds hp. Not to bad for 4stroke power. But will we see that kind of tech in quads, no. Most people dont what their quads redlining at 15000rpm. But wouldnt it be great for those of us that wouldnt mind it.

i think what would be most important is the torque that the 700 will make. it will also be much smoother.
i dont think anyone who would ride a 48hp twin sportsman would call it "underpowered". well maybe jack shultz would.
it is also EFI which would make it easier to get more HP, with aftermarked chips.

swen,
I can see your from Wisconsin one of the best ATV states in the nation. All I am saying is that Polaris is WAY behind Artic-Cat in technology concerning 4 strokes in snowmobiles. The 660 triple from Suzuki is a race engine in Japan they power midsize sports cars with it. There is no aftermarket for the new Polaris engine yet.
You also have to understand the 700cc is 40% larger than the 500cc and it only has 8% more HP now that is why I am calling it a dog. BTW a 700 Polaris domestic twin 2 stroke is over 121 hp. Now that is power.

odin,
arnt the motors that u are refering to High hp but low torque?? i thought thoes engines had a short stroke so they reved very fast but wernt good in the low end torque.
also arnt thoes engines very expensive too?? and higher matience?
i remember a couple years ago artic Cat came out with a 4-stroke sled, does anybody know how much hp it has and how big is it??
im sure polaris can make more hp out of the 700 four stroke, maybee in 2004 we will have a 700HO with even more hp.
if i remember right doesnt Kolher make a 725cc twin four-stroke for lawn mowers thats ONLY 25hp.

So what Polaris will do is dcrease the bore size of the 785CC engine to 700CC. That will increase the low end torque. To keep thing simple, they will take off the EFI and replace it with a carburetor. To place the power in the right rpm range they will adjust port size and camshaft lobe overlap and duration. This is what they have been working on for the past year. Improving the torque for utility applications.
Then they will probably work on the Scrambler, replacing the front end with one which has A-ARMS With the DS650, Raptor, and 400EX they have some good models to work from. What do you think?

thor,
why would polaris take the EFI off?? i would think that the EFI would be a big selling point for the sp700.
also how would reducing the engine size from 785cc to 700cc make more low-end torque??

You are WRONG. They even had a picture of it in the Polaris magazine along with a writeup when they made the "dontation" from Polaris Ind. It's the 700cc Polaris Sled Slug that can get to a whopping 45 mph flat out. Boy, you guys better stay away, that's faster than any of you are used to. Waaayyy too much horsepower I guess. I didn't save the article though, I put the book in the outhouse at camp, and believe it or not, someone "used" it in an emergency. Oh well, at least it met it's intended use.
