Default Any 850XP issues?

Looking to pick up one of these in the near future. Wondering if anyone has had any problems at all with theirs. Thanks.

Well, there has been some problems with the rear axles, but they are being replaced by polaris at no cost, and and that was correct for the 2012 models
Are you looking to buy used or new?
Also, just as an FYI, the 2012's have only one brake caliper in the rear, and the 2009's had 2, and also the rear sway bar was redesigned for 2010, to accomodate wider tires, but the 09's were able to be tweaked to clear wider tires, with no ill affects, for more info search the "HO sway bar mod"

Other than the rear axles at 105 miles which Polaris relplaced out of warranty I have 750 + miles and love the quad. Best quad I have ever owned.

DITTO - Should I plan on bringing my 2009' 850 XP in to replace the axle? I won't be putting many miles on it this year and don't want to miss out on the warranty claim. Should I start complaining about issues now? Thanks - this is an awesome site...Jeff

Steering knuckles are a known problem and there is a recall,
premature wear on brakes/rotors
So far in 700 miles I have done 2 knuckles 2 inner tie rod ends, need brakes/ rotors, A arm bushings have considerable play in them, I have greased them avery 3 or 4 trips too (the a arm bushings). I have a X2 that goes down the same trails as me, no problems other than a few electrical issues
I do really like this machine and will put up with the front end if I have to though, not everyone has these issues, good luck with your new purchase!

As already mentioned, make sure the dealer has the updated ball joints and test ride it for the clicking axles. You can ask about these two things, but I bet they will play dumb. It's the best all around 4x4 quad on the market right now IMO (yes, I've looked numerous times at the competition). Get one, get a warranty, and don't baby it. It's a very nice atv.

So, have all these issues been dealt with in the '10 models?

well the steering knuckle issue is supposed to be solved with the callback (09/010 models), these are my first 2quads so I don't know if atv brakes normally go out that fast, I have read yamaha's have some issues too in this department, I took my tie rod ends apart after they failed and they weren't sealed good enough, they had water in them at one time, so they quickly wore out, the loose a arm bushings doesnt bother me, I'm going to leave them till spring, I'm sure other brands have similiar issues with their A arms too, just that its a new model and everyone reports anything wrong thinking its a defect, I really watch my machine for wear, most people just drive them and never jack them up and check them out JMO!
