My 09 XP 850 Problems so far;

Crankcase valve recall FIXED
Ball Joint recall FIXED
2 new axles installed FIXED
Oil leak (just noticed today) Engine covered in oil UNDIAGNOSED
Electric fan kicks on every minute while riding... UNDIAGNOSED

I responded in your other thread...if they did the crankcase breather recenlty that would be the first place I looked for the oil leak...
Depending on how low the oil level was from the leak, it could make the machine run hotter...oil lubricates AND helps cool...

Heard a few stories about the clutch not engaging until the machine was warmed up a little. Any problems there? Also heard about a belt slap issue. Possibly related?

I've never heard of the belt engagement or slap issue

Never heard of or experience either issue with my XP...

Mine hasn't had any of the issues listed, and I've never heard of the belt slap, thought the new roller clutch does engage, well, briskly. Other than the breather recall, and the broken trunk latch, (operator error) no problems with mine at all.

Ahh bitterfitter your post triggered a thought...I think he is referencing the clutch engagement "clunk" which is worse when the machine is cold...
Not sure how posts about that developed into the clutch not engaging when cold and belt slap...but hey I guess it is like anything else,everyone adds there interpretation and down the line the story completely changes
